Booked for the Day

Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman

On Monday, October 2nd, the Booked for the Day Book Group met to discuss, Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman.  Here are a few things we discussed during the meeting:

The reviews were mixed on this book. Some of the group enjoyed it and found themselves laughing out loud. One member thought it had a Monty Python feel. Others could not get into and were not able to finish the book. The genre of Science Fiction and Fantasy is new to our group but we thought we would try it again at some point.

We talked about what determines what books are science fiction and what is considered fiction. Our resident expert on science fiction categorized our book as speculative fiction which was a new term for most of us. He also explained to us that Good Omens was written early in Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman’s careers and he felt that their writing greatly improved over the years.

We spent some time talking about the parts we found humorous and the parts that we thought were not necessary to the storyline. A few of us thought there may have been too many storylines which caused some confusion. There is a six part mini-series coming out on this book in 2019. One member thought it would make a good television series and would help to explain some of the storylines that we had trouble with.

These are just a few things mentioned during the discussion. Please feel free to add any of your thoughts in the comment section.
