Collection Display - Callie Walsh

For Callie Walsh, the Lisle Library is more than just a place to check out books - it's a place for her to share a part of herself with her friends and neighbors.

Walsh, an 11-year-old who just finished 5th grade at Schiesher Elementary School in Lisle, is one of the many kids who have signed-up to showcase a personal "collection" in the display case outside of the Lisle Library's Youth Services Department since the program was created in February 2013.

When asked why she wanted to share her collection of rocks and fossils with our patrons, Walsh's reply was simple.

"My collection was just sitting at home, but having it here gets other people involved," she said. "Maybe it will make them want to learn about rocks and fossils too."

According to Walsh, she has always been interested in rocks and fossils - especially the way they are formed in the ocean. But these aren't the only things that spark Walsh's interest as a collector. She also collects geodes, stuffed animals, coins - and even displayed her Troll collection at the Library back in 2013.

"The Library is a place when you can open your mind and think differently, and lots of people of different ages come to the library," said Walsh. "I think it's cool that we can do this. I've seen different collections here - things I never would have thought could be a collection."

Walsh's collection of rocks and fossils will be on display until the end of June 2014, and is available for viewing during regular library hours.
