SUMMARY;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Just the Facts Book Discussion Group
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Please join us for our discussion of Elizabeth and Hazel: Two Women of Little Rock by David Margolick. This book gives us a very personal view into a famous photo taken in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1957. Elizabeth Eckford braved a gauntlet of white hecklers as she attempted to enter the newly desegregated Central High School. The photograph taken that day shows Elizabeth, the stoic, and Hazel Bryan, a young heckler behind her. Elizabeth was part of the Little Rock Nine, black teens who became the targets of not only racial hatred, but national and international inspiration. Drawing on interviews and press reports from that tumultuous time, the author gives us portraits of not only these two young women in 1957, but how their lives have evolved since then.
