Our language is tricky — it’s full of ambiguity and complexity. Yet since the early days of robots and computers, we have been fascinated with machines that might understand our natural language. In early 2011, a computer competed against humans on the popular quiz show Jeopardy! — a system able to understand complex questions and answer with precision, confidence, and speed. This activity will use videos and a quiz-show format to introduce young people to the computer called Watson.
