The subject, and the premise was interesting. The execution, not so much. It was enlightening to read about how the First Family lived, interacted and existed within the walls of the White House. I never knew that they paid for their food, incidentals and dry cleaning. They got to live within the walls of one of the most storied homes in America: priceless antiques, paintings and the history. There was also some crazyness and childhood antics that happened from time to time. But we have to remember...these were people, and they had children, parents and the regular ups and downs of life to contend with, all while running our country. One thing we all took away from this book was how incredibly loyal, and proud the staff were. They moved heaven and earth to make sure everything the family wanted was available, and wer always available at any hopur when help was needed. There was no real gossip in the book, and no earth-shattering revelations either. The former staff had/have too much respect for their former employers to say anything out of turn. But, for some, it took a while for that feeling to emerge. In the end...this house would grind to a halt,, and nothing would get done...if not for the dedicated staff of the White House.
