Have you ever wanted to take a journey of self exploration? Did you want solitude and scenery to help you mend your psyche? Have you ever thought of trundeling down the highways and byways of the Great American Plains in a prairie schooner? Do you know jmuch about mules, provisioning, mapping, stargazing or wagon repair? You would need all this expertiese, and more to make it from Missouri to Oregon. No sleeping in hotels, eating at roadside diners or shopping for souviners. You will be hauling wate for the mules, making an necessary repairs on the wagon, and keeping everyone's spirits up during a 2000+ mile trip. This is what the author undertook with his brother, three mules and a dog. The trip was not meant to be a historically accurate journey: the wagon had modifications for safety and comfort, But they followed the trail faithfuloly, wherever it lead. And they both learned: about each other and themselves. They saw an American that not many are able to see, and they did it in style.
