Well...the book was important...

Spolier Alert!!! Not everyone finished the book (myself included) but did we ever have a good discussion! Everyone agreed that the topics raised by the author were important and timely, but that the book "Seemed like a series of endless short stories" rather than a cohesive whole. One participant said she was "angry" and wasn't sure who to be angry with...the author or the government! This book chronicles the wasting a HUGE sums of money...from our government to the governments of Middle Eastern countries, power brokers and the like. The author does provide the reader with a great deal of information, much of which none of us were familiar with. And much of it is timely...with our long security lines becoming security miles. As one group member said: "Fear generates funds." But you needed a scorecard to keep all the players straight! So many hands were in the cookie jar, and doing so much to gain as much as possible, all you needed was an idea and a computer and you too could get a government contract! Dealing with the government had become the new place to play, pushing Wall Street to the curb. There was money to be made in terror and our reaction towards it, and the wolves were circling. In an election year, it's till important to know where the money is going.
