Still pining for the next book in the Song of Ice and Fire series?

If you're watching the show, and have noticed things seem to be a bit different than what you remember from that last book, you may be 1) feeling like you want to re-read the series to see if there's something you missed, or 2) feeling peevish that there's still no publishing date for the next book.    I cannot solve this second problem, but while we're all waiting for George R.R. Martin, may I suggest a few other series?
Steven Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen series has complex world-building, detailed plotting, and a wide cast of characters.
Joe Abercrombie has a great Half a King trilogy, where characters are driven by vengeance and a sense of duty (and the pacing is a bit faster than the Song of Ice and Fire books)

Or, you may want to try some books by R. Scott Bakker.  His stories tend to be gritty, with themes of political and religious intrigue.   Or, may I suggest something by Machiavelli?

You can find all of these books and authors in our catalog --- or ask any of our friendly staff!
