Playing to the Gallery by Grayson Perry
Review: This is very enjoyable read. Grayson Perry is both humorous and informative.
A Deadly Measure of Brimstone by Catriona McPherson
Review: This book (the 8th in the Dandy Gilver mystery series) completely immerses you in 1929 Scotland. Rich-lady P.I. Dandy Gilver solves mysteries with the aid of her trusty sidekick, the handsome Alec Osborne. In this novel, Dandy and Alec are called to investigate a mysterious death at a hydrospa, with Dandy's husband and sons (and even her maid!) tagging along for the adventure. Witty, riveting, and surprising - this excellent novel (and series) doesn't disappoint. McPherson's mysteries (with their strong Scottish flavor) are a breath of fresh air in the genre. Recommended to mystery fans.
NOTE: Although often compared to Downton Abbey, I would rather advise you to go into these books with no preconceived notions - I think the comparison is unfair and misleading. The books are great, Downton Abbey is great - but they are two very different things.
