The Forgotten Seamstress by Liz Trenow
Review It's the early 1900's and a young orphan with a talent for sewing is sent to the sewing room of the royal household. At Buckingham Palace Maria is grateful to have such a good position. When her pretty, slender figure caught
the eye of the Prince of Wales her friends warn her that no good could come of interaction with the royals. She believes that he loves her. When she turns up pregnant, the prince's adviser arranges for her to be sent to an asylum. After she gives birth they tell her that the baby died. Her life in ruins, she turns to her only solace and begins to sew a quilt. Decades later, the quilt plays into revealing the truth about what happened to Maria and her baby. Beautifully written prose with a story as old as men and women but told in a manner that transcends bitterness.
