Paprika by Yasutaka Tsutsui
Review: This is a book with a wonderfully innovative and beautifully creative concept.  A small device called a DC Mini is invented by two psychiatric geniuses.  With this device, you can enter another person's dreams.  The geniuses hope that this can be used in psychiatric treatment of patients. Actually, the female scientist has been illegally treating patients by
entering their dreams for 8 years now.  When she is being a dream therapist/dream detective - she adopts the name and youthful look of Paprika.
But when the DC Minis fall into the wrong hands - hands that would use them for evil purposes - to spread insanity and even murder - can Dr. Chiba and her friends stop it?

This amazing, vivid, innovative book is completely ruined by rampant misogyny and hatred of homosexuals.  This is NOT subtle or an "undercurrent," the woman-bashing and gay-bashing is absolutely upfront and nonstop.  This made
me unable to enjoy the book the way I'd hoped to.  It's very vitriolic and and difficult to read because of the overwhelming hateful messages on almost every page.

I can't in good conscience recommend it to anyone, despite it's interesting premise and delightful writing style.
