Countdown City by Ben H. Winters

Review: Even better than the first book (The Last Policeman) this book once again mashes together mystery and science-fiction.  With an asteroid coming to destroy Earth in just 77 days, former police officer Henry Palace is clinging to the one thing that gives his life meaning: solving crime. When his former babysitter tearfully approaches him asking him to locate her runaway husband, Henry's on the case!  But in a rapidly crumbling civilization with no Internet, phones - or even electricity - can Henry really track down a man who apparently wanted to disappear?  This book is excellent and I highly recommend it.
