The Chicago Way by Michael T. Harvey.
Review: A great, fast-paced mystery set in Chicago. It reads like an old fashioned detective novel or movie with its short, descriptive sentences. I didn't realize it was a series when I chose the book, now I'm looking forward to reading more by this author.
I Am J by Cris Beam.
Review: This book was "ok" only because the author wrote from her experience and was pretty stereotypical. 1. I work with this population and not all of them are certain about who they are. 2. The character, "Melissa,"is a bi-racial teen girl with a black mother and an absent white father. Therefore she sleeps around and is a cutter. I didn't care for that. If you read it, know that it's not all, "I know who I am and what I want." If you've seen Bruce Jenner's interview, even he is still questioning. He told his children to refer to him as "dad" as he hasn't even completed the transition. I just wanted to read the book to see what this author had to say. Clearly not all puppies and unicorns the way this author wants to portray. 2 ½ stars from me.
